It is not unreasonable to call this a glomus tumor, especially in small
biopsies. In fact, the two share significant morphologic overlap.

A reticulin stain may help. Also perform immunostaining for cytokeratin, EMA, S100 protein to rule out synovial sarcoma and neurogenic sarcoma. EM may also be userful.

HEMANGIOPERICYTOMA-LIKE TUMOR 100%

This tumor was called by some authors as well differentiated hemangiopericytoma. The behaviour is better than hemangiopericytoma at other sites.

Spindle cell tumour with focal haemangiopericytoma pattern 100%, Dx: Haemangiopericytoma, sinonasal; Other DDx: Monophasic synovial sarcoma; Myoepithelioma, minor salivary glands; Meningotheliomatous tumour (fibrous meningioma); Solitary fibrous tumour
|
1. Sinonasal haemangiopericytoma is a low grade tumour. It can recur locally but rarely metastasizes. There is no necrosis nor cellular pleomorphism and mitotic figure is about 1/50HPF in the present case.
2. Special investigations: reticulin stain; Immunohistochemical stains: Cytokeratins, EMA, SM actin, desmin, S-100, CD34; EM.

Hemangiopericytoma of nasal cavity

Some authors use hemangiopericytoma-like tumor for well-differentiated form, with rare mitosis and absence of necrosis as the present case.
