Qap (Anatomical Pathology)

Case: AP111
Contributor's Comment: The preferred diagnosis is intramuscular myxoma. According to some recent studies, a somewhat higher cellularity or vascularity is acceptable within the morphologic spectrum of this entity. Others (such as Fletcher) are more conservative, and call these slightly cellular tumors 'low grade myxoid neoplasm with recurrent potential'. Thus , the latter diagnosis is also considered coorrect for this exercise.
Becaue of lack of definite atypical cells (cells with large hyperchromatic nuclei), this tumor does not fulfill the diagnostic criteria of low grade myxofibrosarcoma. This tumor definitely lack the diagnostic features of myxoid liposarcoma (plexiform vasculature and lipoblasts), marks are deducted for these diagnoses.
