Case: AP151
Contributor's Comment: The case belongs to one of those splenic vascular tumours. Splenic vascular
tumours consist of several entities, namely littoral cell angioma (LCA),
hemangioma, hamartoma, and angiosarcoma. Grossly the lesion in this case was a
slightly pedunculated, spherical mass 10 cm across and covered by the splenic
capsule.
Histologically, the lack of malignant features exclude an
angiosarcoma. It also lacks the papillary pattern and tufting as seen in LCA.
It does not fit into a hemangioma neither. Immunostains show that the lining
cells of this lesion are positive for CD31, CD34, and CD8, and negative for
CD68 and CD21. The immunohistochemical results are characteristic for splenic
harmatoma.
