Qap (Anatomical Pathology)

Case: AP249
Contributor's Comment: The solid papillary variant of DCIS is an uncommon entity, which usually presents in older women (7th and 8th decades), as histological circumscribed, solid nodules of neoplastic cells that are typically ovoid or spindle shaped. Discrete papillae are not apparent. The cells may have endocrine features. Intracellular and extracellular mucin production is a common feature, and these lesions may be associated with invasive mucinous carcinoma. Absence of myoepithelial cells within the cellular proliferation is characteristic. These carcinomas have an indolent clinical course, especially when there is no associated frankly invasive carcinoma.
