Qap (Anatomical Pathology)

Case: AP253
Contributor's Comment: Hunt JL, Barnes EL. Non-tumor-associated psammoma bodies in the thyroid. Am J Clin Pathol 119:90-4, 2003.
"27 of 29 patients had a contralateral or an ipsilateral tumor, the majority of which were papillary" In that paper, the authors recommended that "thyroid glands with non-tumor-associated psammoma bodies and no histologically identified carcinoma be entirely submitted to identify any microscopic carcinoma". In our QAP case AP253 the pateint had a papillary carcinoma in the contralateral lobe.
